Another complex surgery was performed at the “Ajapnyak” Medical Center.
A 40-year-old patient was admitted to the surgical department complaining of pain and the presence of a tumor along the midline of the abdomen at the level of the navel.
After examinations and tests, it was determined that there was a small, partially retracted ventral hernia after the previous operation. Several years ago, the woman underwent a gynecological operation, which resulted in the formation of a ventral hernia that increased in size over the years and, according to the patient, became larger and more painful in the last year.
As a result of preoperative examinations, it was found that the contents of the hiatal sac were a large amount of fat and the wall/gallery of the stomach.
After laboratory and instrumental studies, the patient was prepared for surgery.
During the operation, it was found that in addition to the large fibrous tissue in the hernia sac, there was also a tumor of the antral part of the greater curvature of the stomach measuring 10 cm x 10 cm, which tightly adhered to the edge of the hernia sac.
The procedure performed was an atypical gastrectomy, with complete removal of the tumor, which underwent express intraoperative histological examination, which determined that the stomach tumor was a benign tumor of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). The operation was also completed with postoperative sublay hernia repair with the installation of a 15 cm x 20 cm polypropylene mesh.
The postoperative period proceeded smoothly, and the patient was discharged from the hospital without complaints, with improvement on the 4th day.
Further histological and immunohistochemical studies showed a low-risk stromal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract with a low level of mitotic growth.
